These gorgeous beads have a very interesting production process!
Each little 'facet' is actually a tiny square cut from the inside of an abalone shell (Paua shell) and cut to just a few millimeters in size.
Dozens of these little squares are glued to a base bead and coated with a crystal clear lacquer.
The beads are smooth (you can't feel the edges of the faceted shell pieces through the lacquer coating so they are secure and won't fall or flake off).
